Thing 4 RSS Feeds

Once again, it has taken me so long to go through, find, practice, contemplate and try to figure out what I'm doing.  After about a week of inactivity on my part, I went back and read some of the new 'reads' that have been posted.  WOW!  I think I have figured out how beneficial it is to have a direct link for new postings.  Besides saving me time looking for interesting and informative articles, blogs, etc., they are there for me to read when I have a few minutes.  Even more beneficial for me, I think, will be the fact that I probably would not keep up with the reading, but since it is there, maybe I'll stay better informed.

Thing 3 Blog Search Tools

Here I am again, wondering why it has taken me so long to explore and respond to the search tools.  I've tried many of those listed and haven't had much luck in locating specific topic blogs.  Not that I haven't been successful at locating interesting reading about education and web 2.0 tools, but I feel I'm getting there by accident and wonder if I'll be able to locate them again.  ( I have bookmarked some and figured out how to add them to a folder on my bookmark line.  I also can't wait to set up a Delicious account so that I can use that for these sites.)

While searching through the blogs, I was specifically looking for elementary media centers.  One of the searches on Technorati, I think, show videos about halfway down the page.  These seemed more specific to what I was trying to locate.  I watched a video a boy had made telling how bored he was in the media center surrounded by all of those books.  You could hear voices and laughter in the background, so in my opinion, this probably wasn't a completely rigid place to be, but to him, there was nothing better to do than to make a video about how bored he was.  It made me think of those students who seem to waste their time when they are in the media center, finding nothing of interest, who leave with no book (or one I've convinced them to take).  With all of the resources that are available in the media center, all of the students should be able to find something to their liking!  My new goal!

Thing 2

After reading several of the articles on Web 2.0, I am really getting confused.  Can it be as simple as using the web as an interactive tool and using the library/media center as a center for sharing?  I think what I'm having trouble with, is the role that the media center will play at the elementary level using these tools.  Sharing with other media specialists has always been helpful to me, so hope I can get more ideas from others.

Going to go on and read some more blogs and go on to Thing 3--I really do like learning about all of these new THINGS.  Makes me feel I'm keeping up with the times, and ultimately shouldn't that help me keep the media center a place that mixes all of the technologies?

1st blog--had more trouble setting up a new GMail address than I thought I should.  Hope this isn't an indication that technology is passing my by.  You know, old dog-new tricks.  Had to print out the directions for the blog since user names, title of blog, etc, were also confusing this old brain.  Did skip ahead and set up a Twitter account, so that boosted my moral.

Neflin was right.  Thinking of a blog title took about a week.  Finally, after FETC and a couple of other insights, I decided that I have bags of things for all occasions, so that became my blog name.

Til next time
